Good day, I’d like to ask about a problem concerning one of my friends. She has dissociative personality disorder and is in a relationship. The brother of her boyfriend, confessed to her a while ago and she says she feels attraction and attachment, feels strange but loves her boyfriend regardless and is confused about this. She knows both of them since she was about ten years old, and cares for both of course. We were wondering if this has anything to do related to DID? She has several episodes of dissociation (nothing too harsh) every week and thinks that one of her alters crushing on her boyfriend’s brother might be the reason why she’s feeling this way. Thank you for viewing this over.
Yes, it is possible that her mental health disorder is complicating her relationships. Her attraction may fade once her episodes of disassociation are effectively treated.
This is the type of issue that should be dealt with in counseling. If she’s not in counseling, she should strongly consider it, especially if she continues to have dissociative episodes on a weekly basis.
It’s important that this is corrected because of the obvious problems inherent in her being attracted to both her boyfriend and his brother. Few people would be okay with their girlfriend being attracted to their sibling. Treatment can effectively ease her symptoms and remedy this relationship problem. Thank you for your question. Please take care.
