I have been having at least one hallucination per month for a few years now. The hallucinations can be very vivid and real but are usually very short, most are about about second long. They can be visual, auditorial, or both. At first I thought they were weird but I accepted them as normal. However now as I am growing up I have realized that they might be a problem. I am wondering if they truly are normal because they are so short, or if they are a sign that there is a deeper problem.
A. I wish that you would have described what you’re calling a hallucination. That would’ve helped me to know if what you are experiencing is indeed a hallucination.
Generally speaking, hallucinations are not the norm. They are sensations that affect the five senses. This may include hearing voices or seeing visual imagery. Most people don’t have hallucinations. They might have them, under certain circumstances, such as during episodes of psychosis, delirium, drug use, organic brain syndrome, and others.
I would recommend consulting a mental health professional, in-person, to determine if what you are experiencing is a hallucination or something else.
Anytime you’re worried about your mental health, you should be proactive and investigative. Ask your parents to assist you in finding a local mental health professional to evaluate your concerns. What you are calling a hallucination might be perfectly normal. It would be good to know. If something is wrong, it can be treated. Good luck and please take care.
