I have been feeling lost and confused about life. I’m 30 and still don’t know what I want to do with my life. I did not go to college and I don’t feel It’s for me. I work in retail but I hate it. I thought I had a passion for other jobs that I’ve had in life, but it turned out I don’t. I can’t find anything that makes me happy and that I can stand. I quit jobs constantly because I don’t like them or I just feel like i don’t fit in with the people at the jobs. I’d rather work alone because I can’t stand working with people because a lot of people drain my energy with being negative.
It’s depressing because for years I’ve felt like my life has not moved forward. I feel stuck I know I could be great and successful I just don’t know what I’m good at. I don’t like traditional 9 to 5 jobs but I don’t feel i have talent nor money to do anything else creative.
Thank you for writing. Although I sense your frustration, I do want to remind you that you are 30, not 90. You have time to find a career that will give you satisfaction for many decades. But you won’t find a passion unless you look for it.
I suggest you start with a career counselor. Career counselors are specially trained to help people identify talents and areas of interest that can lead to a good job. A counselor will also support you as you explore different possibilities and will help you take a look at ways you may be sabotaging yourself so you can change your approach to work.
I do suggest that you use your sessions to help you take a close look at why you have so much difficulty being around other people. That probably has a great deal to do with your discomfort in jobs.
Going from job to job hasn’t worked for you. Focus instead on getting to the root of the problem.
I wish you well.
