Does Fictional Character Make Sense?

From a teen in India: So I am reading about this character. Let’s call him A. Now A is very careless and carefree, he doesn’t think of the consequences of his actions, he lives for the moment and has a “do what you feel, YOLO”; kind of attitude. He’s very materialistic and overindulgent, spending a great deal of money on clothes and possessions. He spends most of his time partying and having fun.

At the age of 6, A urderwent extreme trauma when enemy soldiers besieged his home, a castle (A lives in a pseudo – Medieval world). He starved for nearly a year along with his brother, B. A witnessed his brother B ordering men who were trying to surrender flung from the walls of the castle from catapults. A vividly remembers the guy who was strapped down to the catapult and how terrified his face was. But before the guy can be fllung from the catapult, A and B’s servant says they might have to eat their dead so they shouldn’t waste good meat. The guy is imprisoned instead and dies of starvation. A and B survive the ordeal thanks to B’s friend who brings them food.

A grew up alone in his castle, with only servants taking care of him and his brothers doing their own duties in their own homes.

Now my question is, could the effect of this early childhood trauma, nearly starving to death and having a lonely childhood cause A to grow up so frivolous and uncaring as he is in the future? Could it develop his brain in such a way?

The simple answer is that all things are possible. Some people are astonishingly resilient. If you are looking for a consultant for a writing project, I think you should find someone local who can talk with you at length.

I wish you well
